Project Blue Light Officially Launches in Highland Park

The police surveillance system is Highland Park and Ecorse’s version of Detroit’s Project Green Light.
After more than a year in the making, Highland Park’s Project Blue Light officially launched on January 15, 2021. 
As part of the program, businesses can pay for special camera equipment that will feed surveillance footage directly into the city’s police department. Companies mark their participation in the project by displaying a flashing blue colored light on their building exterior.
According to Charles W. Lackey, III, the Director of Information Technology for the City of Highland Park, the city teamed up with Ecorse to apply for a Financially Distressed Cities grant to fund the project. ....

Blue Lights Honor Frontline Workers

DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – County and Tribal public health departments are partnering on Project Blue Light to honor frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
All this week, homes and businesses are asked to light up the exterior with a blue light bulb or a string of blue lights.
Dressing in blue and posters thanking frontline workers is also encouraged.
Frontline workers include medical professionals, law enforcement, firefighters, EMT’s and border patrol agents.
Others who often don’t get as much attention include grocery store and restaurant workers, those that deliver mail and packages, custodial and cleaning service workers and many others that are critical to the life, safety and health of residents. ....

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn.– Frontline workers of all kinds continue their hard work to during the pandemic and now, 11 county and tribal public health departments have a way to say ‘thank you’ with Project Blue Light.
Landmarks and businesses will be lit up blue this week across the Northland to honor their hard work. And they are encouraging everyone to do the same in their homes.
“Just to honor those who don’t receive recognition as often as we would like to and we haven’t forgotten about you. And it just means a lot that this has been embraced by so many different groups,” said Kelly Chandler, Itasca County Public Health Division Manager. ....
