BRATTLEBORO â A new downtown plan highlights the need to think about how public spaces are arranged and contribute to a communityâs wellbeing.
âAmong the buildings in downtown Brattleboro is a network of public spaces â streets, parking lots, alleys, sidewalks, paths, riverfronts, parks, plazas,â the plan starts out. âMore than 30 percent of downtown Brattleboro is public space. All kinds of people, at different times throughout the day, pass through those public spaces for many reasons. But good public spaces are characterized by the presence of people remaining when they have no pressing reason to stay.â

BRATTLEBORO â Question: What possibly could electric bikes and the Brooks Memorial Library have in common? Answer: Itâs the Brattleboro E-Bike Lending Library and itâs coming to the library Friday.
The Brattleboro E-Bike Lending Library is an innovative effort in collaboration with the Brooks Memorial Library to provide area residents an opportunity to take home an e-bike for five full days and get a real-world sense of how an electric bicycle can fit into their lives. This project is made possible by Local Motion through a VTrans grant and is locally coordinated by VBike, Brattleboro Energy Committee, Brattleboroâs Sustainability Office and Brattleboro Time Trade. Local Motionâs funding paid for two great bikes, bike accessories, a reservation platform, and insurance coverage.
