Interim Houma fire chief appointed
Terrebonne Parish President Gordy Dove has appointed an interim chief to lead the Houma Fire Department for the next several weeks.
Capt. Lanny Brunet is taking the reins from Chief Keith Ward, who retired earlier this month after 25 years of service.
Brunet, who has served with the department for 23 years, said he is honored to be sitting in the fire chief’s chair.
“It feels pretty surreal,” he said. “I told my wife I am sitting in the same chair that was in the office when (then Fire Chief) Gale LeBoeuf asked me in my interview where I saw myself in my career in 20 years. I told him I wanted to be in his chair. And low and behold, here I am.” ....

BATON ROUGE - The St. George Fire Protection District has earned a Class 1 rating that will go into effect beginning Jan. 1, 2021.
A release concerning its upgraded status was issued Thursday (Dec. 31).
The release stated, in part: Chief Gerard C. Tarleton has been notified by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana that the St. George Fire Protection District is rated to have improved from a Public Fire Protection Classification of Class 2 to Class 1, effective January 1, 2021. This is the highest fire department recognition awarded by PIAL, which rates fire departments in the State of Louisiana. ....
