Tobin: RI Catholics obligated to return to Sunday Mass

Journal Staff
Bishop Thomas J. Tobin has restored the obligation for Catholics to attend Sunday Mass, effective June 6.
In a letter to the Providence Diocese, Bishop Tobin emphasized that some worshipers – including those who are elderly and frail, those who have underlying health conditions, and those who have been advised by their health care providers to avoid public gatherings – will continue to receive dispensation.
But for others, Bishop Tobin wrote, It s time to come home. It s time to return to Sunday Mass.
The bishop waived the obligation to attend Mass in March 2020, and shortly afterward, all in-person church services were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.  ....

John Barry III, left, Councilors Albert Vitali Jr. and Meghan Kallman
PAWTUCKET – The City Council last week said farewell to three members with a combination of nearly 50 years in local government, giving a resolution-filled sendoff to its longest-serving member, John Barry III, as well as Councilors Albert Vitali Jr. and Meghan Kallman.
