From the coast to the Flinders Ranges, and Mt Gambier to Streaky Bay, neighbourhood open spaces are being revitalised through a fund dedicated to improving local public amenities.
In the past two years, 64 projects have been funded through the Open Spaces and Places for People grant program, reaching a combined State Government, council and additional contribution total of $124.7 million.
The 2021/22 grant round opens today (July 1), with the Marshall Liberal Government setting aside a further $14.7 million for job creating and environmentally friendly projects.
“This fund has enabled projects like the Wigley Reserve Playspace at Glenelg, the Prospect Gardens / Narnu Wirra Redevelopment project and the Quorn Bush Tucker Walk get underway – improving community spaces for residents right across South Australia,” Minister for Planning and Local Government Vickie Chapman said. ....

Council urged to ‘put foot down’ as developers seek more time to start Wrexham Air Products housing scheme
Wrexham Council has been urged to “put its foot down” as the owners of a former manufacturing site seek more time to deliver a housing scheme.
The Air Products site in Acrefair, near Wrexham, has stood empty for almost a decade after the plant was closed, resulting in approximately 200 people losing their jobs.
Permission was granted for a mixed-use development, including housing and both commercial and leisure units, in 2012.
It was followed by outline approval for 232 houses to be built being given in 2018. ....

A LOCAL authority has been urged to “put its foot down” as the owners of a former manufacturing site seek more time to deliver a housing scheme.
The Air Products site in Acrefair, near Wrexham, has stood empty for almost a decade after the plant was closed, resulting in approximately 200 people losing their jobs.
Permission was granted for a mixed-use development, including housing and both commercial and leisure units, in 2012.
It was followed by outline approval for 232 houses to be built being given in 2018.
However, the plans have yet to move forward and Wrexham Council has been asked by community leaders to reject an application to allow an extra 18 months for the proposals to progress. ....
