BYD introducing battery-electric Type D school bus
BYD is introducing a battery-electric Type D school bus. With length options of 35, 38, and 40 feet, BYD’s Type D battery-electric school bus can seat up to 84 and can be equipped with an ADA liftgate. The bus has a range of up to 155 miles on a single charge.
The school buses can be charged overnight when energy demand is low, and electricity can be fed back into the classroom during school hours when the bus is parked keeping classrooms well-lit and students and teachers plugged-in.
BYD made safety the top priority in its school bus design, including such features as electronic stability control to aid handling, a collision avoidance system, and a 360-degree monitoring system to detect pedestrians and cyclists when the bus is operating at slow speeds. ....

ACS buses implementing potentially life saving technology

NEWLAND â The Avery County School System is going all in to protect students who ride the bus through an innovative safety system, which is the first of its kind in the state.
The system uses a technology referred to as Predictive Stop Arms that utilizes radar and a loud external speaker to warn students of oncoming vehicles both in the rear and front of the bus if a vehicle is anticipated to speed by a stopped school bus. Initially announced by the school system in January, the new technology is currently being used on two buses on routes in which vehicles have run by a stopped bus, specifically on the four-lane in Newland between the traffic light and the WECR radio station, which is where 80 percent of the violations occur. ....
