Qld harness racing goes teal for cancer research

Queensland’s harness racing industry is taking up the reins for “Team Teal” again in 2021 to raise funds for ovarian cancer research.
Racing Minister Grace Grace today announced that, from February 1 to March 14, $200 will be donated to ovarian and gynaecological cancer research every time a Queensland reinswoman drives a winner in the Sunshine State.
“Nearly 6500 Australian women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer every year, including around 1500 with ovarian cancer,” she said.
“Every dollar that the industry raises helps to fund another research nurse to join the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group and their ground-breaking education and prevention program. ....

Trainers call for industry whip unity

The Australian Trainers Association has called for Racing Australia to step up to urgently bring uniformity to the industry in the wake of Racing Victoria s latest push to progress the whip rule.
ATA chief executive Andrew Nicholl called for RA to assume control to end state-based agendas and therefore ensure consistency throughout the entire national industry.
On these fundamental issues that have national application, we are screaming out for consistency and uniformity, Nicholl said. We are screaming out for that.
They (RA) need to step up and do a far better job because their inability is leading to the states breaking away and trying to run their own race, so to speak, or to pursue state-based solutions rather than national solutions and that s really the essence of this. ....
