Princeton University should seek compromise on Prospect Avenue plans

Regarding Princeton University’s proposed development on Prospect Avenue, I have contacted the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) about Section 106 review of federal funding of university projects, activities, or programs, or of federal permits or licenses, that could have an adverse impact on the National Register Princeton Historic District.
On the advice of ACHP, I will be contacting federal agencies to request a Section 106 review of any present or pending funding, licenses, or permits applicable to ES+SEAS. Future funding, licenses, or permits could also be affected. The contacts will include Save Prospect Coalition’s historic preservation documentation. Should Section 106 review be instituted by any federal agency, the Save Prospect Coalition will request designation as a consulting party. ....

Letters: Princeton residents should be aware that 'Area in need of redevelopment' designation can be problematic -

To the Editor:

As the Planning Board considers this option, we would like to offer a cautionary tale to our friends and neighbors throughout town. The Area in Need of Redevelopment designation will impact all of Princeton, so we would like to encourage all Princetonians to pay close attention.
Almost any neighborhood could be shoehorned into meeting the definition of an Area in Need of Redevelopment, although such a designation is not in the spirit of the statewide law that established this redevelopment framework. Imagine how different the future would be if the Witherspoon-Jackson neighborhood had been declared an Area in Need of Redevelopment rather than designated our 20 ....

Consultant will determine if Princeton Shopping Center area is in need of redevelopment
The Princeton Council has awarded a $12,000 contract to a planning consultant to help determine whether the Princeton Shopping Center and adjacent properties should be declared an area in need of redevelopment.
The council awarded the contract to professional planner Carlos Rodrigues to conduct a preliminary investigation of the North Harrison Study Area at its Jan. 19 meeting. He is a principal of Design Solutions for a Crowded Planet LLC.
The properties to be studied are the Princeton Shopping Center at 301 N. Harrison St.; the former Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad headquarters on the corner of North Harrison Street and Clearview Avenue; 8 Clearview Ave. and 14 Clearview Ave., which are owned by the Municipality of Princeton; and 351 Terhune Road, which is a vacant parcel on the corner of North Harrison Street and Terhune Road. ....
