Four-time Golden Gloves boxing champion Ray Gray, the Detroit man who’s spent nearly 50 years behind bars for a murder he and his longtime supporters insist he did not commit, is hopeful that he could soon be released from a Michigan state prison.
For nearly five decades, Gray, 69, has maintained his innocence in the 1973 shooting death of 23-year-old Army veteran Reuben Bryant in a Euclid Street apartment on the city’s west side. ....

Troopers search for person who shot village police officer in Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta

A person who shot and injured a village police officer in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta community of Nunapitchuk on Tuesday was apprehended after they fled to Bethel, Alaska State Troopers said.
Troopers identified the suspect as 37-year-old Nunapitchuk resident Daris Larson and said that charges were “forthcoming.”
Troopers in Bethel were notified shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday that a prisoner “who was being secured at the Nunapitchuk Public Safety Building” shot a village police officer and escaped, troopers said in an online report.
The village police officer was flown to Bethel for treatment and was in stable condition, according to troopers. ....

WI GOP Bill Would Require prisoner checks Go to Restitution – PJ Media

A bill introduced by two Wisconsin state senators mandates that the stimulus money received by prisoners be used for restitution to the victims of their crimes.
Sen. Julian Bradley and Rep. Joe Sanfelippo introduced the bill that duplicates an effort made by Republicans at the federal level who tried to attach an amendment to the pandemic relief bill passed by Congress that would have prohibited prisoners from receiving any stimulus money.
“President Biden’s irresponsible stimulus package sends stimulus checks to imprisoned murderers, rapists, and child molesters,” Bradley said. “So, Rep. Sanfelippo and I are taking action to ensure the victims of these heinous crimes are paid restitution before criminals sitting in prison can profit.” ....
