Blues Visit Relegated Swindon Aiming to Finally End Goal Drought

Town travel to Swindon for the first of three meaningless end-of-season games aiming to end their goal drought as it moves towards a club record.
The Blues, whose play-off push ground to a halt during April and who dropped to 12th following the midweek games, have now gone 619 minutes, more than six matches and in excess of 10 hours, without a goal.
If they fail to score against the Robins - who have conceded 84 times this season, more than anyone else in League One by eight goals - and then in the opening five minutes at Shrewsbury on Tuesday, they’ll surpass the club record 714 minutes from the 1994/95 Premier League relegation campaign. ....

Town ended their home campaign with a 3-2 victory over the MK Dons. David McGoldrick put the Blues in front on 16 but conceded a penalty just before the break from which Alex Revell equalised. Brett Pitman put Town back in front on 68, Revell equalised again six minutes later before Luke Varney won it in the final minute.
Town made five changes from the team which drew 0-0 at Middlesbrough last week with Teddy Bishop, Josh Emmanuel, Myles Kenlock, Dean Gerken and Christophe Berra all starting.
Luke Chambers (ankle) and Jonas Knudsen (knee) were both left out, while Bartosz Bialkowski, Paul Digby and Luke Hyam all dropped to the bench. Kenlock was making his league debut and Bishop his first senior start of the season. ....

Swindon Town relegated to League Two after 5-0 loss to MK Dons


SWINDON Town suffered relegation to League Two following a 5-0 hammering away at Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday.
Will Grigg struck four goals for the Buckinghamshire outfit while Scott Fraser rolled home a penalty to complete the scoring at Stadium:MK.
Town offered almost nothing in terms of attack and will complete their League One season with a home game against Ipswich Town on Saturday before a final day trip to Wigan Athletic seven days later.
Town followed Bristol Rovers into the EFL’s bottom division after the Gas were also relegated on Saturday.
Caretaker boss Tommy Wright made one change from Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Portsmouth in the shape former MK Dons defender, Mathieu Baudry. Baudry s first game since the reverse fixture at the end of 2020 came at the expense of midfielder Christopher Missilou. ....

Tommy Wright jokes Lee Peacock may apply for Swindon Town manager's job

CARETAKER boss Tommy Wright joked that Lee Peacock might be applying for the manager’s job after helping to claim a win during his first game on the coaching staff.
The former Town striker is currently head of coaching at Swindon Town but has been drafted into the senior set up to assist Wright with training and match days for the final few games of the season.
Peacock’s tenure could hardly have got off to a better start as Swindon beat play-off chasing Portsmouth 3-1 in a convincing fashion at the County Ground in midweek. ....
