Renato Molina, assistant professor, explores how transboundary marine protected areas can lead to greater fisheries cooperation between countries.
With its bulging eyes and relatively unimpressive shape, the Peruvian anchoveta probably wouldn’t win any beauty contests for marine life. In the category of fisheries, however, the small aquatic creature is unbeatable, reproducing at a remarkable rate and yielding catches larger than any other single wild fish species in the world. ....

Turpin said the woodchips were provided by the Montecito Fire Protection District wood chipping program, in which chipping services for shrubs and tree limbs are provided to residents by Montecito Fire contractors in order to prevent fires.
The embers were recorded and carefully projection-mapped onto the logs and the woodchips ground by Jonathan Smith with The Environment Makers, who collaborated closely with Turpin on the multimedia design of the exhibit. ....

New Global Study By South Coast Researchers Shows One In Five Water Wells In Danger Of Going Dry

More than one third of world s water supply comes from groundwater wells
We’ve been hearing the word “drought” a lot in the last few weeks, with rain 20% to 50% of average on the Central and South Coasts this rainfall season. Much of the focus on how much water we have in our lakes, and how much we are getting from the state water project. But, what gets overlooked is groundwater. In the United States, about 40% of our drinking water comes from wells, and about 50% for agriculture is pumped from underground.
A new global study by some South Coast researchers shows the key resource in many parts of the world is literally being pumped dry. One in five in the study are in danger of growing dry. ....
