Some Brevard County Jail inmates were given COVID-19 vaccines via DOH

Inmates at the Brevard County Jail have been offered COVID-19 vaccinations, officials told FLORIDA TODAY Tuesday.
We conducted an outreach at the jail on April 28 with the Moderna vaccine. 370 inmates and deputies were vaccinated,  Assistant County Health Department Director Anita Stremmel wrote in an email. Information on how many doses were offered to deputies versus inmates was not available.
We didn’t break it down. We will return for 2nd doses. We don’t have plans at this time for a second 1st dose outreach, Stremmel said.
The Brevard County Jail s inmate population Tuesday was 1548. The number of Brevard Sheriff s Office sworn deputies at the jail is 270. The number of civilian employees at the jail is not clear but the BCSO employs 446 civilians excluding dispatch. ....

Ben Crump files lawsuit in fatal police shooting of two Florida teens

BREVARD COUNTY,  Fla. – Civil rights attorney Ben Crump announced a lawsuit Friday after a deputy fatally shot a 16-year-old and 18-year-old in Florida last year.
The lawsuit comes the day after the state attorney’s office announced that the officer who shot and killed the two Black teens, 18-year-old Sincere Pierce and 16-year-old Angelo A.J. Crooms, would not face criminal charges.
Families of the two teens have repeatedly disputed what the sheriff s and state attorney s offices have said: A.J., who was driving at the time of the stop, was attempting to run into the deputy. The two teens were fatally shot on Nov. 13, 2020 at a traffic stop, when Brevard County deputy Jafet Santiago-Miranda shot 10 bullets into the vehicle as it moved slowly forward, wheels turned towards the curb. ....
