Muncie School Board approves teacher pay increases

MUNCIE, Ind.  In an effort to help mitigate teacher turnover, the Muncie Community School Board on Tuesday unanimously approved a wage increase for teachers totaling $1,346,900 for the district.
Board member Dave Heeter, a member of the CEO Committee for Compensation, brought the recommendation to the table, thanking the most recent Indiana Legislature for the possibility of the salary increase.
That legislation encourages us to keep increasing pay for teachers, something we’ve been able to do over the last couple of years, Heeter said during the meeting.  But I think we all know it’s something we need to continue to focus on.   ....

Muncie Schools to offer employees $1,000 stipends for pandemic efforts


“We really appreciate the board’s support of this resolution,” MCS Director of Public Education and CEO Lee Ann Kwiatkowski said. “Our people have been working extremely hard with additional responsibilities under very difficult circumstances all year, and this is one way we can recognize them for their dedication and make sure they know how much they’re valued.”
School districts are under no obligation to use their ESSER funds on employee stipends, but the MCS board has made a priority of rewarding district employees in recent years. Since Ball State University took control of MCS in 2018, the district has seen two significant employee raises and one earlier stipend, the release stated. ....
