HOLLIDAYSBURG When 19-year-old Jahlil Curtis-Devine Williams of Altoona was charged with attempted homicide in 2019, he was described as someone who was trying to start a street gang.
On Wednesday in Blair County Court, the now 21-year-old Williams pledged to finish a sentence of three to seven years incarceration, then never be in trouble again.
“I didn’t understand how important life was until I was in jail,” Williams told President Judge Elizabeth Doyle.
While inside Blair County Prison for almost two years, Williams said he missed the birth of his brother’s and sister’s children. He also said he has done a lot of thinking and knows he caused stress for his mother. ....

HOLLIDAYSBURG An Altoona teenager facing second-degree murder in the 2020 shooting death of a fellow teenager cannot be rehabilitated through any form of treatment available in juvenile court, a Philadelphia psychiatrist testified Friday in Blair County Court.
Dr. John O’Brien II, presented as a rebuttal witness during a hearing to decide if Logan Persing’s criminal charges should remain in adult court, said Persing has never been able to sustain improvements in his behavior.
“The offense itself,” O’Brien said, referring to the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Devon Pfirsching, “occurred on a night when Persing had to pretend that he was compliant with his curfew.” ....
