Lakewood Ranch seizes No. 1 spot in master-planned community sales | East County

Lakewood Ranch took over the No. 1 spot as the nation s top master-planned selling community in a report released today by real estate consulting firm RCLCO.
With 1,535 sales through the first half of 2021, Lakewood Ranch is 83% higher than last year s pace of 838 homes sold. That percentage increase in sales was by far the most among the top 20 master-planned selling communities in the nation.
As a whole, the top 50 master-planned selling communities for the first half of 2021 are 20% higher than at this point a year ago. This increase, according to the report, is despite a tightening of home inventory and a reduced supply of building supplies and labor. ....

Attorney George Levesque s response calls Michael Barfield s complaint against Manatee County Commissioner Vanessa Baugh ridiculous and false.
The attorney for Manatee County Commissioner Vanessa Baugh issued a statement Friday on Baugh s behalf in response to what he termed as ridiculous and false allegations levied by Sarasota s Michael Barfield.
Barfield, the board president for the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida, filed a complaint with the Manatee County Sheriff s Office about Baugh s role in setting up a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch that had been requested by Gov. Ron DeSantis. The complaint also concerns Baugh sending a list of five names herself, Schroeder-Manatee Ranch CEO and President Rex Jensen, Lawrence Jensen and two of Baugh’s neighbors to Public Safety Director Jacob Saur as names for vaccination requested Feb. 15, two days before the site opened. ....

The 67-year-old River Club resident has been especially careful during the COVID-19 pandemic. His 70-year-old wife, Catherine Lathrop, has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a condition that obstructs airflow from the lungs.
“I’m constantly worried,” Cliff Lathrop said. “If she gets it, with a lung disease, it would be bad.”
After they receive their second vaccinations at Premier Sports Campus, Cliff and Catherine Lathrop will visit with their daughter, Sarah Lathrop, who lives in Nashville. Aside from a brief Hello while she was visiting nearby Anna Maria Island to take care of her cousin’s pets, it’s been a year and a half since the Lathrops have visited with her. Manatee County Sheriff's Office investigating Commissioner Vanessa Baugh | East County

The Manatee County Sheriff s Office is investigating Commissioner Vanessa Baugh, according to Public Information Officer Randy Warren.
Warren said the sheriff s office received a two dozen-page complaint Monday from Sarasota paralegal consultant Michael Barfield, who is also the board president for the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida.
Once we got that, we started looking through it, Warren said. That s the process that we re in right now. We want to examine what the claims are to see if there were any laws that were broken.
The investigation is part of the continuing fallout from Baugh s role in organizing a pop-up vaccination site last week at Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, which was requested by Gov. Ron DeSantis. Manatee County s Vaccination Standby Pool was used to select 3,200 residents who live in the 34202 and 34211 ZIP Codes. ....
