Prestonpans pupils help police tackle parking problems outside their school

MODEL and real-life schoolchildren are helping police tackle “nightmare” parking outside a Prestonpans school.
On Tuesday, Prestonpans community police officer Fiona Cunningham was joined by PC Craig Purves and pupils from Preston Tower Primary School who are also the school’s junior road safety officers outside the school’s campus on Preston Road.
They were there as part of a new parking buddy initiative launched by East Lothian Police to help tackle the issue of some parents parking inconsiderately while dropping off or picking up their children from school.
Major issues have been highlighted both before and after school at both of Preston Tower’s campuses, on West Loan and Preston Road, with parking described as a “nightmare” and an “accident waiting to happen”. ....

Inconsiderate parking 'endangering lives of children' at Prestonpans school

MOTORISTS parking near a primary school are being asked to park “considerately” with pupils now back at school.
Constables Cunningham and Nixon, from the community policing team, were patrolling outside schools in Prestonpans last Monday morning.
Complaints have been made to police about irresponsible parking and speeding in the area around Preston Tower Primary School.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “These officers are asking road users to park considerately and not near the school gates as this endangers the lives of our children.
“Lots of cars create congestion, making it unsafe for pedestrians and cyclists and very difficult for pupils to cross the road. ....

Police visit Preston Tower Primary School to tackle parking issues

POLICE have visited a primary school to speak to drivers about parking issues.
East Lothian Police, through the community policing fund, have purchased a number of “parking buddies”, which were deployed to promote road safety and educate drivers not to park or stop on the zigzag lines outside Preston Tower Primary School in Prestonpans.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said that the visit last Thursday had been “well received” by parents and children.
They said: “Following a return to school after the Easter holidays, officers will be working with schools in the county to progress a program of road safety initiatives.” ....

Young children find creative ways to support Leuchie House from home

All were raising money for Leuchie House respite centre, found on the outskirts of North Berwick.
Harris Gordon attended the North Berwick school hub, where he planned and designed a shop which he then built with his family as a home school project using spare decking.
The seven-year-old, who is in primary three, set up his stall at the end of his drive in Cala Homes’ Law Garden development and charmed passers-by into buying his produce, which consisted of sweets, crisps and eggs.
As well as hand sanitiser, he had bags for people to put their items into.
Dad Jonathan said: “Harris was always talking about a shop and making money and buying items from the wholesalers and selling them, so we said if he wanted to do it, it would be best to do it for charity. ....
