Treasure Valley healthcare centers anticipate continued demand from 12- to 15-year-olds to get a COVID-19 shot after the Pfizer vaccine was ok’d for them last week.
Twelve-year-old Emily Weiss was one of the first children in Idaho to get vaccinated against COVID-19 when she got her initial jab Wednesday. She said she’s missed a lot of things during the pandemic, including regular visits with relatives and playing flute in band concerts.
“I really was happy because I really wanted to get it and get back to normal,” she said. “I wanted to see my friends, play sports and go on vacation.” ....

BOISE, Idaho (AP) Soldiers triaging patients in parking lots in a capital city is normally the stuff of science fiction.
Yet that’s the reality in Boise, where troops direct people outside an urgent-care clinic revamped into a facility for coronavirus patients as infections and deaths surge in Idaho and nationwide.
Inside Primary Health Medical Group’s clinic, physician assistant Nicole Thomas works extra 12-hour shifts to help out. She dons goggles, an N95 mask, a surgical mask over that, gloves and a body covering to examine 36 patients a day with symptoms. Some days, she says, half of them test positive for COVID-19. ....

Primary Health Medical Group receives first shipment of COVID-19 vaccine

BOISE, Idaho Primary Health Medical Group received the first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Friday morning and began vaccinating medical providers and other staff.
Over the last nine months, Primary Health has conducted more than 75,000 COVID-19 tests. Some facilities were even forced to close due to staff and providers being out sick or being exposed to COVID-19, according to pediatrician and CEO of Primary Health Dr. David Peterman.
Over the past nine months, we have been under extraordinary pressure to treat our patients and keep our staff safe, Peterman added. Today we are incredibly excited to have received vaccine so we can begin the process of protecting our staff and providers. There is such a sense of optimism ....
