MANEB official-cum-school owner alleged to have leaked 2020 MSCE exams


Chief internal auditor at the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB), Harrison Manda, and owner of Multi Career as well as Royal Private Secondary Schools in Karonga and Mzuzu respectively is said to have been behind the leakage of the 2020 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations that led to their cancellation before they were administered in January this year,

Our sources, who include teachers, students and other school owners based in Mzuzu, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said for sometime now Manda has been “fond of leaking some examination papers” to form four learners at his schools. ....

Ombudsman to audit PSLCE selection list


The Office of the Ombudsman has moved to in to probe the selection process of primary school learners to public secondary schools.
The development comes barely days after the release of Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examination results by the Ministry of Education Science and Technology in conjunction with the Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB).
According to the Ministry, 225,387 candidates passed the examination out of 277,007 candidates that sat the examination. This represents 81.37 percent, the country’s best results in five years.
Out of 225,387 candidates, 84,947 candidates, or 37.73 percent of those that passed, have been selected to start form one in secondary schools. ....

All impregnated Girls at Satemwa Primary School in Mulanje Return to School
Satemwa Primary School in Mulanje has registered 100% re-enrollment rate of girls impregnated during COVID-19 holiday.
The school’s head teacher Mr. Biton Mayere told Zodiak that three girls dropped out of school after getting pregnant during the long holiday.
“Three girls were impregnated but the good news is that all returned to school. Two girls wrote their Primary School Leaving Certificate of Examinations (PSLCE),” said Mayere.
Another standard seven girl told Zodiak Online that she realized that she was pregnant early October and she did not dare start school up until the mother group approached and encouraged her to go back to school. ....
