Charity provides custom stuffed animals for children with special medical needs

Nonprofit organization Tubie Friends provides customized stuffed animals with feeding and other types of medical tubes attached to them to help make life easier for children who rely on such devices. The group will be holding its annual fundraising auction to benefit those charitable efforts later this month.
Shannon Gonsalves is a teacher at Brier Elementary School and helped to co-found the charity along with two other mothers who all had children with medical conditions that required using feeding tubes. She said of its origins, “We had created them for our own kids and then other parents who were in our online support group started asking, ‘Well how do I get one for my kids?’” After initially telling those parents how to craft them “it dawned on us that new families to tube feeding don’t have spare supplies yet to make their own,” Gonsalves ....

School district provides update on stages of re-entry plan

In an update to families on its Edmonds Schools Stages of Re-entry Plan, the Edmonds School District said it is on track for all Stage 1 students to have in-person learning opportunities available by the end of the month.
On Monday, Jan. 4, the district said it welcomed Developmental Kindergarten classes back into its school buildings. The Developmental Kindergarten programs serve students with disabilities including deficits in language, cognition, social/emotional, speech, and/or motor skills.
On Tuesday, Jan. 19, the district said it plans to bring in Intensive Support programs housed at Brier Elementary School and Maplewood K-8. The district also plans to bring back the Intensive Support program at Scriber Lake High School, the Project Search program, and some VOICE students. ....

Edmonds School District updates families on plans to return students to classrooms in 2021

Before recessing for the winter holidays, the Edmonds School District Wednesday updated families on plans to return more students to in-person learning in 2021.
In a statement signed by Superintendent Gustavo Balderas, the district announced plans to bring more special education programs back into school buildings in January. Returning programs fall under Stage 1 the district’s re-entry plan and include Developmental Kindergarten, Intensive Support, Project Search, some VOICE students and all Developmental Kindergarten programs like language, cognition, social/emotional, speech, and/or motor skills.
Plans to return to in-person learning will be based on information provided by the Snohomish Health District. ....
