With plans to return students to in-person learning starting this fall, the Edmonds School Board Monday night discussed several matters that need to be addressed before the school district brings students back to classrooms five days a week.
During the board’s regular school building re-entry briefing, Superintendent Gustavo Balderas announced plans to offer students the option to return to in-person learning five days a week for the 2021-22 school year or stay 100% remote. ....

Edmonds School District planning to offer full-time in-person learning option this fall

The Edmonds School District is planning to return students to full-time in-person learning at the start of the 2021-22 school year, according to district leaders.
At the Edmonds School Board of Directors’ May 11 business meeting, Superintendent Gustavo Balderas said the district intends to offer students the option to return to in-person leaning five days a week or stay 100% remote.
“Our goal is to have as many of our kids as possible to come back to our campuses,” he said.
According to Balderas, staff are still working out the details for remote learning, but added that online learning will look different for elementary, middle and high school grade levels. The logistics of returning students to school buildings full-time will be based on guidance from the Washington State Department of Health. ....

Just days after announcing plans to return more students to school buildings, the Edmonds School District is scrambling to change pace following a new directive from the governor to offer in-person learning to students at all grade levels by mid-April 2021.
“We know our students and families have been struggling for nearly a year, as it was March 13, 2020, when we were ordered to close all schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Superintendent Gustavo Balderas said in a statement to the news media Friday. “We will share more information about next steps to meet the governor’s mandate soon.” ....
