ד ר רותם, 51, החל את דרכו בבית החולים רמב ם בשנת 2002 במסגרת הסטאז של לימודי הרפואה שסיים בפקולטה בטכניון, חיפה. במהלך שנות לימודיו זכה ד ר רותם בפרסי הצטיינות ושבח על הצטיינותו בלימודים. לאחר סיום לימודיו החליטו בני הזוג רותם להשתקע בצפון ולכן עברו להתגורר בקיבוץ מגידו וד ר רותם המשיך לעבוד בבית החולים רמב ם, שם סיים את התמחותו בכירורגיה אורתופדית.
