COVID-19 K-12 School Outbreaks Explode Colorado April 2021

At this point in the COVID-19 pandemic, with vaccination rates going up and inoculations now available to anyone over fifteen, officials had hoped that case counts would be in serious decline. But no: This week s roundup of data from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment shows infections and hospitalizations continuing to rise and the number of newly identified outbreaks has skyrocketed.
The 170 new outbreak sites in the state listed on the CDPHE s just-released April 28 survey represents a 13.166 percent increase in just seven days and the spike is paced by an explosion of outbreaks at schools in which the overwhelming majority of positive tests involve students. The 52 outbreaks at K-12 facilities account for well over a quarter of the new outbreaks. ....

PMC Board Receives Review for 2020, COVID-19 Update : The Prowers Journal

The decrease in Covid cases coming in to Prowers Medical Center is corresponding to the latest decrease in the Positivity Test Rate for Prowers County, according to PMC Chief Executive Officer, Karen Bryant. The County is now designated at a Blue Level for cases and the Positivity Rate is currently under 1%, much lower than the standard 5% rating.
Bryant told the Prowers Medical Board of Directors there have been only two Covid cases in the hospital’s emergency room in February and staff has removed the barriers required to maintain a Covid unit on the Medical Surge Board. “The new positivity rate allows us to make adjustments back to our previous normal operating conditions,” she said, adding that new visitation guidelines are being relaxed and are available for the public on the hospital’s website. There were 19 Covid cases in January with 10 being discharged from PMC, six were admitted to the facility and three were transferred. One patient tested positive wh ....

PMC Board Covers 2021 Developments : The Prowers Journal

The Prowers Medical Center Board of Directors discussed several projects during their January 27
th meeting including a construction update on the nuclear medicine camera laboratory and available funding for the new MRI unit.
The completion date for the laboratory should be by the end of March or early April, according to hospital Chief Executive Officer, Karen Bryant. She said some of the construction materials needed by the contractors was delayed, pushing the timeline back slightly. The funding for the MRI, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Unit, will be lower than the $1 million requested from DoLA, the Department of Local Affairs. There was $22.6 million in requests put to the department which had a budget of $13.2 million for funding. Although there isn’t any official notification at this point, the board expects to receive around $700,000, or about 70% of their request. The hospital is using $500,000 from the CARES Act for equipment upgrades including a new ultraviolet d ....

City of Lamar Enacting Safety Measures to Deal with Recent COVID Surge
The Prowers County Public Health and Environment department issued a press release on Thursday, October 22nd, stating a death occurred 10/21/2020 associated with COVID-19. The person was a resident of the nursing facility experiencing the outbreak in Lamar. The process of death investigation to determine whether this person died of COVID-19 or with COVID-19 is multi-tiered and goes through local, state and federal agencies.
Lamar Mayor, Kirk Crespin, announced on Tuesday, the 20th via facebook that the county is now at risk of going to Stage 3 restrictions unless the outbreak of the pandemic can be brought under control over the next two weeks. Although Crespin said he does not like the idea of mandated mask wearing measures, “We aren’t doing enough on our own,” he stated in light of the recent outbreak of 35 new cases and the death of a resident of Lamar Estates. As such, the City of Lamar is tak ....
