Villagers celebrate their £250,000 pub

The pub saved from closure by determined residents will have a grand re-opening next month.
The Lowther Arms in the tiny village of Mawbray will be opened on Saturday, June 26, two-and-a-half years after it shut down after residents succeeded in raising the £250,000 needed to buy the pub.
Chris Atkinson, chairman of the Lowther Ar,ms Community Project said; “The re-opening of the Lowther Arms is going to be a very special occasion and we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone on the day. All are invited to come and join us as we celebrate saving our village pub for future generations.” ....

Villagers banded together and offered shares for people to buy and 282 shareholders now own the pub.
In 13 weeks, they raised £150,000 and were given £100,000 by Co-operatives UK in match funding.
The pub will reopen on Saturday, June 26.
Chris Atkinson, chair of the project, said: “The reopening of the Lowther Arms is going to be a very special occasion and we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone on the day.
“All are invited to come and join us as we celebrate saving our village pub for future generations.
“LACP is a co-operative, and we believe this is also the country’s first coastal community pub. It will mean a great deal to the village, the community and the pub’s supporters to see it trading again.” ....

Community group's joy as offer for Lowther Arms pub in Mawbray is accepted

A group in Mawbray is celebrating an amazing milestone after having their offer accepted on a building that they want to retain for the community.
The Lowther Arms Community Project (LACP) has been working for months to raise the funds necessary in order to buy the Lowther Arms pub, at the heart of the village.
Chairman of the LACP, Chris Atkinson said: “We’re obviously delighted that our offer has been accepted, subject to contract, and we now look forward to completing the sale as soon as we can.
“This has all been possible thanks to the wonderful generosity of all our supporters and 264 shareholders, and the whole community can now look forward to the pub re-opening as ‘More Than A Pub’. ....

A West Cumbrian community group has had its bid to buy a village local pub accepted.
Mawbray villagers banded together to set up the Lowther Arms Community Project Ltd to save the inn and offered shares for people to buy.
In 13 weeks, they raised Â£150,000 and were given Â£100,000 by Co-operatives UK in match funding.
It reached another milestone today when it found out its bid for the Lowther Arms was accepted.
