Clean out medicine cabinets on National Drug Take-Back Day

PLYMOUTH – Plymouth County Outreach will host a spring drug take-back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Plymouth police headquarters at 20 Long Pond Road.
The event is being held as part of National Drug Take-Back Day and will allow residents to clean out their medicine cabinets and discard any unwanted or expired prescripton medications. The Plymouth Fire Department will also be accepting sharps for disposal during the event. Liquids medications will not be accepted.
During the event, Deterra drug deactivation kits will be available for residents to take home free of charge. Deterra is a drug deactivation system that allows people to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medication in their own home. ....

Bourne Group Offering Addiction-Fighting Resource Bags Filled With Supplies

Members of the support group Bourne Substance Free Coalition agree that the COVID-19 crisis has had a negative impact on their efforts at fighting addiction over the past year, but it has not stopped the group in its tracks. The group has stayed committed to its goals of helping people fighting addiction by providing assistance and resources.
One of the coalitionâs newest endeavors involves distribution of resource bags to people struggling with an addiction issue. The blue bags feature a graphic that shows a circle sectioned off in four quadrants, with each area featuring a different logoâBourne Fire Department, Bourne Police Department, the Bourne Substance Free Coalition, and the National Institutes of Health HEAL Initiative. ....

Meet Luis Pizano: Plymouth s newest School Committee member
PLYMOUTH – New School Committee member Luis Pizano sets an example for students and parents alike.
Born in poverty to immigrant parents, Pizano studied hard to get into college and earn an engineering degree. And now, after building a successful career and settling in West Plymouth with his wife and two children, Pizano is committed to paying it back by volunteering in schools.
“I know it sounds a bit cliché, but my primary motivation is to give back and serve the community. I believe I can make a real difference and inject new blood in the policy-making process. I feel I do owe it to the community to always try to be an engaged parent,” Pizano said in an interview. ....
