The fatal hit-run accident in Logan Township on April 29 must remain a wake-up call regarding the need for tougher enforcement in the highway corridor consisting of Plank Road, Pleasant Valley Boulevard and Valley View Boulevard.
The speeding problem within the corridor is and has been well known.
However, that long-held knowledge has been unsuccessful in producing the kind of beefed-up enforcement steps that might even have prevented what occurred on the night in question.
That night, on Pleasant Valley Boulevard in the area of the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center, the life of a 65-year-old pedestrian was snuffed out by the driver who fled the accident scene. ....

Man hit, killed on boulevard | News, Sports, Jobs

A 65-year-old man was killed Thursday when a vehicle hit him on Pleasant Valley Boulevard. The vehicle fled the scene, Altoona police reported.
The victim was identified as Lynn James Jury of Altoona, Blair County Coroner Patty Ross told WTAJ. He died from blunt force trauma.
Logan Township police said in a news release the incident occurred near the 3300 block of boulevard in the area of the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center about 11 p.m. Altoona police assisted Logan Township at the scene, and the Pennsylvania State Police Crash Reconstruction unit is working with local law enforcement on the investigation. ....

Last spring, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic played havoc with the start of Pennsylvania’s trout season.
In order to prevent the traditional congregation of huge opening-day crowds in 2020, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission announced an impromptu start of the season for the entire state for April 7, early in the morning that the first lines were permitted to be cast into the water.
The 2020 statewide season trout opener also replaced the format of a separate, earlier opening day that had been implemented for 18 of the state’s southeastern counties that had been in place for the past several years, a move designed to cut down on extensive intra-state travel by fishermen during the COVID-19 crisis. ....

Like other special occasions, Valentine’s Day will be a bit different during the coronavirus pandemic.
Just more than half 52% of U.S. adults plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, spending a total of $21.8 billion, according to the annual survey released today by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics.
“There is no question the pandemic has disrupted many aspects of Americans’ daily interactions and activities,” said NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay in a statement. “However, there remains a special significance around Valentine’s Day, and consumers are committed to celebrating friends and loved ones, even if that means having to alter those traditional holiday celebrations.” ....
