Plume picks up $270M at a $1.35B valuation to power smart home WiFi for broadband providers

The last year of life under a global health pandemic has seen a massive surge of people working from home a shift that has thrown a stark light on the iffy quality of our broadband networks. Today a startup called Plume which has built a mesh-Wi-Fi platform that helps optimize broadband connectivity and then uses it to deliver a range of smarter home services to some 22 million homes globally is announcing a major funding round of $270 million that underscores the opportunity to fix that, and more. Plume and partners debut range of OpenSync CPEs on Wi-Fi 6

Smart home services pioneer Plume, along with partners ADTRAN, Askey, CIG, Hitron, Kaon, Sagemcom, Sercomm, Technicolor, and Zyxel Communications, has announced the availability of over 20 Wi-Fi 6 consumer premises equipment products (CPEs) fully supported by OpenSync.
The CPEs available now include the ADTRAN SDG-814-v6 Gateway and Askey router, while Q2 2021 will see the launch of the CIG WF-194C4 Extender, WF-194C8 Access Point and WF-188 Extender; the Hitron OS2210 Extender; Kaon AR1344E Extender and CG3000S Gateway; Sagemcom Fast3896 Gateway, Fast568x Gateway, Fast567x Gateway, Fast538x Gateway, Fast528x Router, Fast266 Extender, Fast288 Extender and Fast69x Extender. ....

Virgin Media launches Intelligent WiFi Plus with Wi-Fi boosting pods

Claiming that it is now able to make in-home wireless connectivity speeds up to three times faster, Virgin Media has launched what it says is a “game-changing” Wi-Fi service that will give customers broadband access in more areas of their homes.
The new Intelligent WiFi Plus from Virgin Media combines a suite of new, automatically deployed features on its Hub 3 and Hub 4 routers, with brand new Intelligent WiFi Pods that help to extend Wi-Fi reach and speeds throughout the home. The Pods, powered by technology firm Plume, create a unique Wi-Fi ecosystem bespoke to each household. In-home Wi-Fi coverage is extended through the creation of a cloud-controlled ‘mesh’ network which constantly adapts and evolves.
