Fishing, boating and ATV activities highlight DNR conservation officer workloads

CO Ryan Brown (Karlstad) reports decent fishing activity in Hallock, with anglers reporting decent-sized walleyes. ATV enforcement was also worked, with various violations encountered. Wolf depredations continue to be a trend throughout the area. CO Jeremy Woinarowicz (Thief River Falls West) worked an AIS detail on Upper Red Lake with Lt. Eric Benjamin and CO Sura. He also checked anglers on the Red Lake River. Enforcement action was taken for angling without license, angling with privileges suspended, transporting dressed fillets without a patch of skin, no helmet on a juvenile on an ATV and a walleye overlimit. CO Tony Elwell (Thief River Falls East) monitored boating, angling and ATV activity in the area this week. Violations encountered included angling without a license, expired watercraft registration, watercraft safety equipment violations and various ATV-related violations.

Fishing, ATV enforcement and squirrel rescue among recent DNR officer activities

CO Brice Vollbrecht (Bemidji) reports rescuing four young squirrels that had their tails tangled together outside a youth house in Bemidji. He was able to trap the animals under a box, leaving their tails outside so a piece of cloth could be pulled away from the tails. The animals were all safely returned to the tree where an upset mother was waiting for them.
