Asphalt Will Be Used On Saline Creek Road, Not Chip & Seal

Saline Creek Road will be the next focus of the Ste. Genevieve County Commission, following completion of the Lawrenceton Cutoff/Roth Road project.
Commissioners agreed with road and bridge foreman Scott Schmieder’s suggestion that the 6/10 of a mile stretch will need regular asphalting. Because of a steep hill, often used by heavy trucks, chip and seal paving would probably not hold up long.
“If we chip and seal it a month later it will be peeling off,” Presiding Commissioner Garry Nelson said.
The commissioners asked Schmieder’s opinion. He said asphalt was definitely his recommendation. ....

Yapp To Share Expertise, Passion At Workshops

Windows are to be repaired, not replaced, says historic preservationist Bob Yapp.
“In 160-plus properties I’ve been involved in restoring, I’ve never replaced a window,” Yapp told the
Herald. “The big lie in America today is that you should replace your windows.”
Yapp will share his passion and expertise on window repair, as well as wood siding repair, during special workshops in Ste. Genevieve this weekend.
The historic preservation workshops will be held May 14-16, sponsored by the Ste. Genevieve Heritage Commission.
The May 14 workshop will be a classroom session and will be 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. ....

Ambulance Board Honors Short, Considers House 3 Situation

Members of the Ste. Genevieve County Ambulance District Board honored Rick Short, who is retiring from the ambulance staff and discussed possible future scenarios for a western county location during their monthly meeting April 12.
They met at House 3, west of Weingarten. Whether to upgrade House 3, raze it and build a new structure on the spot, or seek a more ideal parcel of land in the general area have all been options discussed during the past two or three years.
These options all continue to remain open.

R-II Board Reorganizes; Approves Staff Additions

Meeting for the first time since the April 6 election, the Ste. Genevieve R-II Board of Education held its reorganizational meeting on April 20. In its regular meeting, the board then announced official end-of-year dates and approved hiring a new fifth-grade teacher and two new staff members.

The reorganizational meeting began with outgoing member and board vice president Joan Huck receiving a special clock as a gift.
“We would like to thank Joan for serving the community and the school district for 18 years and even beyond that,” board president David Bova said, “for serving as board vice president, for putting kids first in all your decisions and keeping what’s best for kids as your top priority.” ....

JE Dunn Construction Company broke ground last June for the $295,974,160 design-build replacement of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Kansas City district) Fort Leonard Wood Hospital, an initiative expected to be delivered in fall 2024.
The project at the U.S. Army Base near St. Robert, Mo., and funded by Department of Defense military construction funds, was awarded to JE Dunn in August 2019. As the construction agent for Defense Health Agency, the USACE s Kansas City district is responsible for the design, construction and delivery of the hospital. ....
