Puerto Rican People's Day Parade Set to Return to Chicago This Month

After being called off last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, another iconic parade is returning to the city of Chicago this month, as the Puerto Rican People’s Day Parade will take place in Humboldt Park.
According to organizers, the parade will take place on June 19, and will celebrate several events, including the Puerto Rican community’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the island’s right to self determination, and the 50
th anniversary of the Crucifixion de Don Pedro Mural.

Community activists and lawyers engaged in efforts to reform the Chicago Police Department have blasted Mayor Lori Lightfoot and CPD leadership for failing to move quickly on implementation of a court-mandated consent decree that is supposed to ensure change.
