Wetlands Water Park kicks off 2021 summer events

The summer season kicks off at Wetlands Water Park Saturday beginning a summer of events that include Little League Night, Sunday Fundays and swim lessons.
Wetlands, located within Persimmon Ridge Park in Jonesborough, will hold a grand opening on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The parkâs regular season hours will be Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday Funday rates also begin with tickets available at $9 per person every Sunday.
Little League Night takes place on Wednesday, June 16 from 6 â 9 p.m. Players, coaches, umpires, fans and families are all invited. ....

Getting on a scenic trail is easy in Northeast Tennessee

Avid walkers and hikers have a number of scenic trails to choose from in Northeast Tennessee.
The granddaddy of them all is the Appalachian Trail, which travels through 14 states and over 2,100 miles from Springer Mountain, Georgia, to Katahdin, Maine.
The hiking trail crosses into Tennessee near the Nolichucky River, just outside of Erwin. The world-famous trail has multiple access points in the Johnson City area.
Another one of the most enjoyed trails in the region is the Tweetsie Trail, which is a multi-purpose path that stretches 10 miles between Johnson City and Elizabethton. It is Tennesseeâs longest rails-to-trails project and runs along the the track of the former East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad through Washington and Carter counties. ....

Jonesborough aims to purchase school property next week; board hears update on design

More than a year after first releasing its plans to build a K-8 school and enter in a lease-to-own agreement with Washington County, the town of Jonesborough will officially close on the property next Wednesday.
âThatâs our hope,â Jonesborough Mayor Chuck Vest said of closing next week. âIf that doesnât happen, we still can close the first of the year, but right now the plan is to set up and close on Wednesday the 23rd.â
The property, a 48-acre tract of land off North Cherokee/Tavern Hill Road, will cost about $2.2 million. The school project itself was projected to cost around $28 million, though that number has come down a bit with changes to the schoolâs design. Vest said that the school is about 7,000 square feet shorter than originally planned â saving the town between $1-$1.5 million. ....
