March for farmers' rights begins in Odisha, outfits gearing up for Bharat Bandh | Bhubaneswar News


The farmer leaders started the yatra from Bhubaneswar after paying floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the Mahatma Gandhi Park on Friday.
BHUBANESWAR: Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of 14 farmers outfits in the state, has started 12-day-long Krushak Adhikar Yatra (March for farmer rights) in Odisha protesting farm laws and showing solidarity to farmers’ movement in New Delhi.
Commemorating the historic Dandi March on March 12, 1930, the farmer leaders started the yatra from Bhubaneswar after paying floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the Mahatma Gandhi Park here on Friday. They boarded a bus to travel to different districts of the state and sensitize farmers about the harmful effect of the farm laws. ....

Women have marched across Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans, and Central Asia demanding governments do more to respect their rights as the world marks International Women s Day.
Thousands of activists in Kyiv marched through the city center on March 8 from the Mykhaylivska Square to the Poshtova Square holding posters with slogans like, My Body-My Business, Human Rights-Women s Rights, and Join Istanbul Convention Against Domestic Violence Now. Many also held LGBT rainbow flags.
A group of feminist activists from Belarus were among the marchers in Kyiv, holding Belarusian flags and portraits of jailed Belarusian opposition politician Maryya Kalesnikava. ....

Journalists murdered with impunity in Sri Lanka


Despite pressure at home and from the international community, truth and justice have not yet been achieved.
Journalist Prageeth disappeared on Jan. 24, 2010, in Colombo, two days before the presidential election in which he was campaigning against former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
For 11 years, I have walked everywhere to seek justice. I ran to find not only my husband but also other disappeared people, said Sandya at the N.M Perera Center in Borella on Jan. 25.
My effort is to find those who seek justice in this country and for the building of a better society.
Sandya, who won the US International Women of Courage Award in 2017, created a website (ekneligodaforum.org) to help deliver justice for Sri Lanka s disappeared. She urges journalists and others to use the website to find information on Prageeth and others still missing. ....
