Interior Health s new COVID-19 cases identified by local health area
BC announced a big change in the way it organizes COVID-19 data last week.
Health officials have now started updating a Local Health Area (LHA) map each week with new case data.
Previously, the data been organized according to health authority, some of which span great distances like the Interior Health region.
On Wednesday, the first round of data was released and it shows a significant increase of COVID-19 in both the Central and South Okanagan.
The LHA map reports case numbers in 31 local health areas in the Interior Health region. ....

With 91 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, there have now been 2,998 Interior Health residents who have tested positive for the disease.
There are now 843 active cases in the region with 28 people in hospital. Seven of those are in intensive care.
Those numbers were announced at a news briefing today, Dec. 16, by Interior Health’s chief medical health officer Dr. Albert de Villiers.
The death toll in the Interior Health region rose to eight after a death in the past 24 hours. A woman in her 90s died in the community and her death was not associated with an outbreak. ....

Detailed mapping of new COVID-19 cases in the Interior Health region show a significant increase in both the Central and South Okanagan.
The map shows case numbers in 31 local health areas in the Interior Health region. It was updated yesterday, Dec. 16, and contains data for the week ending Saturday, Dec. 12.
That was before the cluster at Big White Ski Resort jumped to 60 people on Monday from just two on Sunday. Still, the Kettle Valley region that includes Big White, Rock Creek, Midway and Greenwood shows 11 new cases that week versus no cases the week before. ....

A woman in her 70s has died at a long-term care home in Oliver.
An outbreak at McKinney Place Extended Care grew to 53 cases this week and today, Dec. 15, Interior Health reported one of the residents, a woman in her 70s, had died.
“This has been our most challenging long-term care outbreak and we offer our condolences to the family and the caregivers,” Interior Health Authority president and CEO Susan Brown said in a media release.
“This is our seventh COVID-19 death in the Interior and we must all continue to do our part and follow the public health advice to protect our most vulnerable loved ones.” ....

COVID-19 outbreak at South Okanagan care home continues to grow | iNFOnews | Thompson-Okanagan's News Source

A COVID-19 outbreak at a long-term care home in the South Okanagan continues to grow.
So far, 38 residents and 15 staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 at McKinney Place Extended Care in Oliver, for a total of 53 cases to date, according to an Interior Health media release issued today, Dec. 14.
That’s up from a total of 41 cases reported at the long-term care facility on Friday, Dec. 11, when 27 residents and 14 staff members had tested positive.
McKinney Place is operated by Interior Health and is connected to South Okanagan General Hospital. The long-term care section has 61 residents in the 75 publicly funded long-term care beds. The hospital is not included in the outbreak. ....
