Sprint races won't sell tickets says ex McLaren man

Sprint races won’t sell tickets, says Boullier
Date published:

After the curiosity has died down, former F1 team boss Eric Boullier says sprint races won’t entice fans to attend grand prix weekends.
In a bid to up the ante, and draw more fans into buying weekend tickets instead of just those for race days, Formula 1 is set to introduce sprint races this season.
The proposal has been given the go-ahead by the team bosses, who agreed to it on condition that they receive around $500,000 to cover the expenses that the sprint races will incur.
Added to that, they will also receive additional funds if one of their cars, or both, suffers major damage as a result of a crash during sprint qualifying. ....

McLaren have confirmed that the motorhome that they bring to various races is to be downsized for the 2021 campaign.
Formula 1 have long spoken of their desire to make the sport more sustainable and environmentally friendly going forward.
Last year, Ross Brawn said that he felt getting rid of the team’s extravagant motorhomes in favour of on-site facilities would be a step in the right direction in this regard.
“We all go to a Grand Prix and for nine races of the year, we have motorhomes carted around by trucks, a large fleet of trucks, that give the teams the facilities they need,” he said. ....

Norris: I effed it all up but there are positives

18 April, 2021
McLaren’s Lando Norris was hard on himself after qualifying for the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and a hearty hug from the team boss did not make him feel any better.
The 21-year-old Briton ended up seventh on the starting grid for Sunday’s Formula One race at Imola, a place behind teammate Daniel Ricciardo, but it would have been third had he not had a lap deleted for exceeding track limits.
At the time, the lap would have been good enough to pitch Norris on to the front row, “I´m pretty disappointed, pretty annoyed with myself. The team did an awesome job, the car really came alive in quali. We made a lot of improvements from Friday but on that one lap that I don´t need to make a mistake on, I effed it all up.” ....

F1 driver salaries: How much Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso & Verstappen get paid

After an exciting season opener to the Formula One World Championship 2021 in Bahrain, the circus moves to the world famous Imola circuit in Italy for the second round.
This season looks set to be one of the best seasons since the turbo-hybrid era started in 2014 thanks to new regulations to decrease the level of downforce on the cars. This has meant that Mercedes and Sir Lewis Hamilton don’t look as dominant as they have done previously, meaning that Max Verstappen and Red Bull have a real chance of challenging and beating the Silver Arrows.
Since Bahrain, the drivers’ base salaries have been released, as per The Mirror, and to no surprise the main two protagonists are top of the list, but further down below there are a few surprises. ....
