MANGALURU/KOLAR: A woman probationary police sub-inspector, who was seven months pregnant, died due to Covid in the early hours of Tuesday at a Kolar hospital, losing a twoweek battle against the virus, report Deepthi Sanjiv and K Ranganath.
Twenty-four-year-old Shamili (in pic), who completed BFSc from a Mangaluru college with three gold medals in 2019, was posted to Dakshina Kannada as sub-inspector of police in January this year.

Karnataka: Dakshina Kannada self-sufficient in oxygen supply, says DC | Mangaluru News

MANGALURU: Even when the state is facing an acute shortage of oxygen in hospitals to treat Covid-19 cases, hospitals in Dakshina Kannada district have not been affected so far, according to officials.
Government Wenlock District Hospital has its storage plant that has oxygen sufficient for more than two weeks.
Similarly, the supply chain in the district to various government and private hospitals is intact and no cases of oxygen scarcity have been reported so far.
Deputy commissioner, Dr K V Rajendra said, the district is self-sufficient in medical oxygen availability.
“At present, we have nearly 650 Covid-19 cases, who are being treated in various hospitals. Out of 66 premises, we received only one distress call so far from a private hospital and oxygen was arranged immediately. We have three private agencies Malabar Oxygen Company, Karnad Gases and Lakshmi Medical Oxygen suppliers in the district who are supplying oxygen regularly. ....

MANGALURU: The Mangaluru city police have seized nearly 68 vehicles, including 64 two-wheelers, for violating the night curfew imposed by the government on Saturday.
The police had set up 42 checkpoints across the city, and motorists were stopped at prominent junctions, and allowed to go only after producing valid documents after 10 pm. The clamping of night curfew in the city witnessed traffic snarls at many places, and commotion prevailed at a few places, when people were not allowed to move after 10pm.
While many questioned the police for not allowing them to return to their homes, those working on night shifts expressed their anger, when they were stopped even after showing their identity cards. ....

MANGALURU: A 12-year-old boy was found dead 500 metres from his house in Mangaluru on Sunday morning, about 10 hours after he left home saying he wanted to meet a friend. Police suspect the boy may have been a victim of the now-banned PUBG videogame.
Police have picked up a 17-year-old boy for questioning in the case. It is suspected that the boys were playing the game together after an accidental meeting at a mobile store in Mangaluru three months ago.
