COVID-19 pandemic still raging in country, R-factor rising in 8 states: Centre

There is an upward trajectory of new COVID cases in limited areas while the Delta variant of coronavirus in the country is a dominant problem, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday.  
The pandemic is still raging in the country and the r factor is a significant problem as eight states are showing a rise in it, Dr VK Paul, NITI Aayog member and head of Centre s COVID task force, said. He said, The Delta variant [of SARS-CoV-2] is a dominant problem. the pandemic is still raging and the second wave is still persisting in our country.   ....

India has to intensify nutrition-related action


On 12 December 2020, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the Government of India launched the report of the first phase of National Family Health Survey 2019-20 (NFHS-5) for the 22 states and Union territories. Researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders, including the parents of millions of children, were expecting to hear the great news that India had made massive progress toward eliminating the problem of child malnutrition.
Unfortunately, the first-phase report gives startling revelations of no progress toward reducing child undernutrition in the last five years since 2015-16 (NFHS-4). The estimates from the report indicate that instead of making progress, states are reversing the headway made in the last decades. Out of 22 states and UTs, 18 have more than 25% stunted children and 16 have greater than 25% underweight ones. Meghalaya, with an increase of 2.7%, has the most (46.5%) stunted children while Bihar (42.9%) is at the second place with a 5.4% redu ....
