BAR HARBOR Dr. Owen J. (OJ) Logue has assumed duties as interim executive director of the Bar Harbor Food Pantry and its resale clothing boutique, Serendipity.  
Logue resides in Southwest Harbor after recently retiring from being the executive director of the Maine Educational Center for the Deaf. His leadership background includes being an academic dean and faculty member of several colleges and universities and as a special education director for school districts, including AOS 91. He is currently coaching distance runners at Mount Desert Island High School and will also be coaching the USA Deaf Track and Field team for the Deaflympics to be held in May 2022.  ....

MOUNT DESERT ISLAND   Over the last year, nonprofit organizations on the island have had to adjust their volunteering practices in response to the pandemic.  
Many organizations lost a large percentage of their volunteers, many of whom were in the virus’s more vulnerable age categories. Other organizations saw a surge in volunteerism from people who were either out of work or working from home and had more time to offer their services. And some other organizations have curbed activities during the pandemic and do not need as many volunteers as they used to.   ....

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust's employee giving program reaches $100,000 milestone

Vermont Business Magazine Bar Harbor Bank & Trust’s employee giving program, Casual for a Cause, recently surpassed the $100,000 mark of total donations made to nonprofit organizations since the program launched in 2018. More than 53 organizations across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont have received donations through the program.
Casual for a Cause gives Bank employees the opportunity to dress casually on Fridays in exchange for a bi-weekly payroll deduction made to a pool of funds collected during each quarter. The employees then vote on the nonprofits to receive their contributions. The program is entirely voluntary, and each employee sets his/her own level of giving. Approximately 2/3 of the Bank’s employees participate in Casual for a Cause. ....

Lynam funds boost local nonprofits
MOUNT DESERT ISLAND –With grants totaling $154,000, this year’s Hattie A. & Fred C. Lynam Trust recipients from Mount Desert Island say they plan to put the funds to good use across their organizations. For some it means being able to operate in the coming year and for others the funds will be used to expand programming or meet other critical needs.  
The recipients were selected by Bar Harbor Trust Services, which helps to support charitable, religious and education organizations that are specifically beneficial to the people of Mount Desert Island. 
The bank, through the Lynam Trust awarded grants to 30 organizations, including the Abbe Museum, Bar Harbor Food Pantry, Camp Beech Cliff, Harbor House Community Center, Neighborhood House, Mount Desert Nursing Association and Southwest Harbor Public Library.   ....

Food pantry donation gives needed boost to nonprofit 
BAR HARBOR Dollar for dollar, Greg and Julie Veilleux, owners of Window Panes, matched donations collected at their store during the month of November. Last week, they presented a check for $2,000 to the Bar Harbor Food Pantry.  
“We got a great response from the community,” said Julie Veilleux, who added that donations of cash and food were brought into the business from Oct. 31 through Nov. 30.  
The business donated some of the food items before Thanksgiving and have “another big bucket of food to drop off” soon, she said.  
The Bar Harbor Food Pantry can certainly use those donations, said Jenny Jones, executive director of the food pantry.   ....
