Three restaurants with Israeli-inspired menus were tagged over the weekend in what appears to have been part of a larger spree against Portland businesses.
Vandals targeted both locations of Shalom Y all, as well as Aviv s brand-new Pearl District eatery. Spray-painted messages on the buildings exterior and sidewalk included Free Palestine, Murder and Yuppie Scum. ....

Police are investigating after three Israeli-style restaurants in Portland, Oregon were vandalized with antisemitic graffiti on Sunday.
Graffiti found at two locations of the Shalom Y’all restaurants included messages such as “Murder,” “Free Palestine,” and “hummus is not Israeli,” according to photos posted on social media.
“We are incredibly disheartened by these actions,” said the restaurants’ co-owners, Kasey Mills, Jamal Hassan, and Laura Amans, in a statement to ....

The Portland Police Bureau is investigating after at least three Portland Israeli restaurants were vandalized with “Free Palestine” graffiti late Saturday and early Sunday, according to a bureau spokesman.
Officers took a report on Sunday. Bias crime detectives have been notified of the case, according to police spokesman Derek Harmon.
Spokespeople for both restaurants said they didn’t want to “get into the politics” behind the incident. In a statement, Shalom Y’all owners Kasey Mills, Jamal Hassan and Laura Amans described the vandalism, which included “Free Palestine tags and other graffiti, as “anti-Semitic.” ....

Police Investigating Antisemitic Vandalism at Three Israeli Restaurants in Portland

Iran and world powers will meet on Friday after their experts flesh out concrete plans on how the United States.
In Nov. 2019, local news channel KGW8 reported that police were investigating a separate hate crime at Shalom Y’all, after hackers replaced the establishment’s voicemail greeting with antisemitic messages.
“We are so thankful for the outpouring of support we have received from the community over the last 24 hours,” said the Shalom Y’all co-owners in the statement Monday. “We encourage you to help us in supporting the Oregon Coalition Against Hate Crime.”
The three started the Sesame Collective restaurant group in 2020, which also includes Mediterranean Exploration Company, Yalla, and Bless Your Heart Burgers, all in Portland. ....

But the year felt like an extended last call, with our most cherished venues, bistros and watering holes felled by the pandemic and a lack of government aid. Downtown got hit the hardest, as empty office buildings meant no lunch or after-work crowds. But soon the blight touched every neighborhood. When we return to social life, we will still feel a vacancy: Many of our favorite hangouts won t be waiting for us. Here are four we ll miss. ....
