Community Heritage Grants Recipients 2017
The Community Heritage Grants (CHG) program provides grants of up to $15,000 to community organisations such as libraries, archives, museums, genealogical and historical societies, multicultural and Indigenous groups. The grants are provided to assist with the preservation of locally owned, but nationally significant collections of materials that are publicly accessible including artefacts, letters, diaries, maps, photographs, and audio visual material.
In 2017, 56 grants were awarded, totalling $356,843.

National Volunteer Week runs from May 17-23
The State Government has recognised 166 Western Australians for their long-standing commitment to volunteering at the WA Volunteer Service Awards.
Volunteering Minister Reece Whitby presented awards at a ceremony held at the Constitutional Centre today, as part of the 32nd annual National Volunteer Week.
The awards program, run by the Department of Communities, acknowledges the significant dedication and contributions of Western Australian volunteers who have given more than 25 years’ service to the community. ....

I want Kanzi: a new Australian apple variety comes into its own


Laurie Thompson, a third-generation grower at Battunga Orchards in Victoria, says: “For the past decade we’ve been planting extra trees to keep up with demand.”
The additional plantings, combined with ideal weather conditions of “low summer temperatures, with the cool nights and warm days”, is going to lead to what Thompson projects will be Australia’s biggest Kanzi season on record.
