Monroe County School Board approves summer school plan


AMORY – The Monroe County School Board approved tentative plans for summer school during its May 11 meeting. The Monroe County School District will begin its summer term June 7, which continues through June 25.
“We will have school from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Mondays through Fridays during that period. We will serve breakfast, as well as a take-home lunch when students depart,” said assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction Billy Tacker.
In other business, Monroe County Superintendent of Education Brian Jernigan said the district is receiving almost $10,000 in federal aid through Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds to help remedial education for students who have fallen behind during disruptions caused by the pandemic. ....

Students and schools prep for statewide ACT test day


Juniors throughout Mississippi will take the ACT test Feb. 23, and schools serving Monroe County students are helping to get them motivated to perform well.
“Your class standing with your GPA is important, but the ACT is the one our universities and colleges look at for some serious scholarship money. One of the more important factors of the ACT is knowing where kids stand nationally, but it means scholarship money and opportunities,” said Monroe County Superintendent of Education Brian Jernigan.
For the Monroe County School District, ACT prep is embedded at each campus for English and Algebra II. With that, the structure and sample questioning of the ACT test is embedded in classes. Some district campuses also offer ACT courses. ....
