Mississippi Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley approved April 5 that M-Pulse Fiber, the broadband subsidiary of Monroe County Electric Power Association, will receive $8,191,008 from the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) to provide broadband access to 3,881 homes and businesses in the service territory of M-Pulse Fiber.
âFolks in the service territory of M-Pulse Fiber deserve the same internet access as people living in New York, Chicago or Los Angeles. Mississippi can never move into the modern world of education, economic development, health care or quality of life if our people are forced to sit at a fast food restaurant just to get on the internet. I am bound and determined that we fix this issue, and these funds to M-Pulse Fiber are a big step forward,â he said.
HATLEY ⢠Donnie Williams and his wife, Amy, were awake in the early morning hours Wednesday, tracking the storm front as it passed through Hatley, when they lost television service to their Weaver Creek Drive home.
âWhen the lightning got continuous, I knew the storm was getting worse and there was no doubt we were in a mess,â Williams said. âIt was roaring, and stuff was breaking.â
The couple quickly took shelter underneath the stairs. When they emerged, they discovered their house largely untouched.
âI think weâre blessed to be in the shape weâre in,â Williams said. âNobody got hurt. Even though there was a lot of damage, we were still blessed.â
The sun rises Feb. 17 ahead of the second winter storm to sweep through North Mississippi last week. The first system, which arrived Feb. 15, caused ice and storm, which shut down several normal routines and operations throughout Monroe County for the week.
