MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Today marks the start of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato is highlighting the risks and signs of the illness.
The Skin Cancer Foundation says more than 5 million cases are diagnosed in the U.S. each year, making it the most common form of cancer in the U.S.
Though many associate sunshine with summer months, sun exposure happens year-round. Factors such as fair skin, a history of severe sunburn, and having more than 50 moles on your body can make you more susceptible to the cancer. ....

Aggie Morgan, 74, of Kasota, experiences a virtual hot air balloon ride through a virtual reality headset as her oncology nurse Kerry Olson (right) and her daughter, Klaire, 13, watch. Morgan had long wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride. She recently transitioned to hospice care for terminal multiple myeloma, so Olson brought her daughter in to help set up the virtual reality experience.

While everyone in the room watched her, Aggie Morgan was flying high thanks to a virtual reality experience set up by her oncology nurse.
Headset on, the 74-year-old Kasota, Minnesota, woman felt like she was suspended in a hot air balloon looking down at the Rio Grande in Texas. Aggie and her husband, John, are familiar with the area from vacationing down in Texas during the winter. ....
