Speaking to reporters in Kolhapur, some 375 kilometres from here, the party s Maharashtra unit chief Chandrakant Patil said the previous government under Devendra Fadnavis had proposed a formula to treat the Maratha community at par with the Other Backward Classes when it came to educational facilities and self-employment.
Patil said the Uddhav Thackeray government must file a review petition in the Supreme Court in connection with the apex court s order on the 102nd Amendment of the Constitution.
The BJP on Friday demanded that the Maharashtra government announce a Rs 3,000 crore package to provide educational facilities and scholarships to the Maratha community on the lines of the assistance given to those from the OBC category. ....

New Delhi: A five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday has held that reservations in excess of the 50% ceiling limit are unconstitutional. The bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan, L. Nageswara Rao, S. Abdul Nazeer, Hemant Gupta and S. Ravindra Bhat struck down the Maharashtra State Reservation for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) Act, 2018 which extended reservation to the Maratha community in public education and employment in excess of the ceiling limit of 50% fixed by the Supreme Court earlier. ....

BJP govt has insulted Marathas, says oppn | Goa News

PANAJI: The opposition on Friday accused BJP government of insulting the Marathas led by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by calling them invaders in a tweet promoting the Aguada jail.
Congress and GFP demanded an apology from the Pramod Sawant government for the “irresponsible tweet” by the Goa tourism department.
Though the state government issued a clarification regarding the tweet, the opposition said that it appeared as propaganda for the Portuguese Colonialists.
Opposition leader Digambar Kamat said that Sawant should apologise for insulting the sentiments of patriotic Indians.
“The contribution of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and the Great Maratha warriors for Goa should never be forgotten. It is most unfortunate that BJP government has insulted the Maratha warriors,” Kamat said. ....
