Books and Badges Program Kicks Off in Marion!

The Marion City Police Department’s MPACT Program’s mission is to positively unite Police and citizens. That’s also the goal of the Starfish organization’s Books and Badges Program, which is kicking off in the Marion City Schools.
Tuesday morning Starfish delivered 600 books that Marion City Police Officers will be reading and distributing to Marion City School’s and St. Mary’s Elementary students in the coming months. Starfish was the idea of Columbus resident Nicole Banks. She wanted to get books in the hands of youth, and thought it’d be a great partnership if the books could be read and left with kids aged 6 to 11 by police officers. So, she reached out to Columbus Police Deputy Chief Becker who fast-tracked the program that began in 2018. ....

Judge dismisses charges Marion Auditor Robert Landon John Matthews

Charges filed on Election Day 2019 against Marion City Auditor Robert Landon and former GOP Chairman John Matthews were dismissed by visiting Judge James S. Rapp on Wednesday.
Landon (R), 30, of Marion was facing charges of two first-degree misdemeanors for allegedly illegally distributing a sample ballot and allegedly sending out communications purporting to be from the board of elections. Matthews, 54, of Caledonia was facing one first-degree misdemeanor charge for illegally distributing a sample ballot. In the verdict, Judge Rapp ruled while they did send out sample ballots, charging them for this would be unconstitutional, citing their first amendment rights.
Landon said because of the charges, he and his family have been completely devastated by unprecedented, malicious and evil political attack. Landon said he, his wife, his kids and even his parents were all victims of abuse throughout the 16 months leading up to the trial. ....

Major Fentanyl Trafficker Arrested in Marion!

On February 18, 2021, around 7am, the METRICH/MARMET Drug Task Force with the assistance of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in the 3000 block of Marion Waldo Road in Marion County.
During the execution of the search warrant, MARMET detectives located 391 grams of fentanyl and 51 grams of cocaine.
Arrested was Jorge Moctezuma Jr, age 23 of Marion, Ohio. Moctezuma was taken to the Multi County Jail for Trafficking in Fentanyl and Trafficking in Cocaine. Formal charges will be filed by Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan.
The fentanyl found during the execution of this search warrant could kill an estimated 195,000 people and this seizure will undoubtedly save lives of Marion residents. The Marion County Sheriff s Office, the Marion Police Department and the Marion County Prosecutor s Office will continue to work together to make sure Marion County is as safe as possible and that includes aggressively seeking out high le ....
