Marion police: Homicide leaves one man dead


Marion Police Officers are investigating a homicide on the 120 block of S. Seffner St. in Marion after a Monday night shooting left one man dead, according to a press release.
Police identified Ricco D. McGhee, 43, of Marion as the victim, according to the release. Jay McDonald, Marion Chief of Police, said officers originally were dispatched on-the scene after a report of a shooting at 10:41 p.m. Monday. They found the victim seriously injured from being shot in the chest and transported him to Marion General Hospital where he was eventually pronounced dead.
Police have also issued a warrant for Ziair E. Green, 17, of Marion for murder. Police advise that he might still be armed and that the public should use caution if he is seen. Additionally, if anyone knows where Green might be located, they are encouraged to reach out to local police with information. ....

Marion Mayor Scott Schertzer and Safety Director Randy Caryer hosted a small group of visitors to Marion City Hall for a formal ceremony on Monday in which three Marion Police Officers were promoted. Major Jay McDonald was promoted to Chief of Police, Lieutenant Chris Adkins was promoted to Major and Officer Richard Wheeler was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Family members of the promoted officers were in attendance, as well media members, law enforcement leaders and government dignitaries. The ceremony was also live streamed via zoom.
 Jay McDonald, a native of Toledo and a graduate of Whitmer High School became the 15th Chief of Police for the City of Marion since 1903, succeeding Bill Collins who retired this past October. McDonald began his service with the Marion Police Department in 1994 as a Patrolman and attended the Law Enforcement Academy at North Central Technical College in Mansfield. McDonald was promoted to Lieuten ....

On 12-26-2020 at 17:14 hours, Marion Police Officers responded to a report of two deceased individuals found by a family member in the garage of a home located in the 1200 block of E. Center Street Marion.
The deceased persons were determined to a be a married couple who were also residents of the home. Marion PD Investigators, working in conjunction with the Marion County Coroner’s Office conducted an investigation at the scene and identified the deceased as Amy Berry, age 42 and Max Berry, age 44.
“This is a horrible tragedy in every conceivable way”, said Major Jeff Clewell, Commander of the MPD Criminal Investigations Division. “While this investigation is still in its’ infancy, the early details indicate that Mr. Berry shot and killed his wife prior to turning the gun on himself”. ....
