Health officials report 12 new cases of COVID-19 on Prince of Wales Island, 7 in Ketchikan

At least seven people in Ketchikan tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, according to data from local public health officials. Some 16 people are actively infected with COVID-19 in the First City. PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center says two people are hospitalized with the disease.
As of Wednesday afternoon, 19 people have tested positive since Ketchikan’s emergency operations center shut down on Friday. The EOC served as a clearinghouse for local COVID-19 data and coordinated local resources to fight the pandemic. ....

Authorities in Ketchikan have for the first time raised the community’s pandemic risk level to its highest mark. That’s as at least three COVID-19 clusters, including one centered on the local high school, are driving case numbers to heights Ketchikan has never seen. ....

Ketchikan officials downgrade local pandemic risk to lowest level

Ketchikan officials downgraded the community’s pandemic risk level to its lowest mark Wednesday.
The low risk level indicates little presence of the coronavirus in the community Ketchikan officials have reported only a handful of new COVID-19 cases in the past week. That’s despite administering nearly 1,000 tests.
None of the area’s recent cases have been linked to community spread, indicating that testing and tracing efforts are finding success. ....

The latest film festival to come straight to our computers and tablets is Rising Gardens. The online event has been organised by Sangat and the Kriti Film Club to mark the One Billion Rising’s South Asia Campaign. The selection has been curated by eminent editor and filmmaker Reena Mohan.
The films will be streamed between January and April. The January package, which is available until January 18, is titled ‘Cosmic Connections’ and is organised around the theme of women and nature. The films are available for free on the website www.doculive.in. ....
