Routine Healthcare De-Prioritised in Favour of Administering Vaccines

7 Jan 2021
NHS doctors have been told to “stand down” routine care for their general practice patients, prioritising instead administering vaccines for the Chinese coronavirus.
Last week the British drugs regulator approved for use a second coronavirus vaccine, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson pledging to rapidly innoculate Britain’s most vulnerable, as well as frontline healthcare workers.
Britons have seen their normal access to the taxpayer-funded National Health Service disrupted since the first lockdown in March 2020, but a report from
The Telegraph claims that they will have even less access to their services, with guidance seen by the newspaper saying that vaccine administration must be given “top priority”. ....

Cancer Operations to be Postponed due to Coronavirus: UK Health Chief

6 Jan 2021
Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) may be forced to cancel cancer operations in response to the Chinese coronavirus, a top medical chief in the UK has warned.
The president of the Royal College of Surgeons, Professor Neil Mortensen said on Tuesday that NHS facilities across the country have already begun to suspend ‘low-priority’ medical procedures such as knee and hip replacements, but warned that in the coming weeks more serious procedures may have to be cancelled as well.
“We’re now concerned about operations like cancer surgeries being cancelled or postponed because there just isn’t the capacity to be able to manage them,” Prof Mortensen told Times Radio. ....

NHS Gets Political, Chiefs Call for Brexit Delay Because of Coronavirus

NHS Gets Political, Chiefs Call for Brexit Delay Because of Coronavirus
23 Dec 2020
Leaders of the British universal healthcare provider the National Health Service have told Prime Minister Boris Johnson to extend the transition period delaying the UK’s exit from EU institutions because leaving in the New Year would push the allegedly coronavirus-hit NHS “over the edge”.
The UK officially left the European Union on January 31st, 2020, but remains in a transition period tied to the bloc’s trading rules and regulations until December 31st, 2020. During this time, London and Brussels have been mostly in a state of deadlock in negotiations for a new deal, disagreeing over issues including fishing and rules on state support for domestic industry. ....

Millions of Life-Saving Scans Missed as NHS Ground to Halt: Report

18 Dec 2020
There were at least 4.4 million fewer scans between April and September, many of which could have been life-saving, after the National Health Service (NHS) was told in March to cancel all non-essential appointments because of the Chinese coronavirus.
Analysis conducted by the BBC found that ultrasounds and CT and MRI scans fell by one-third during that period.
NHS England also admitted that the backlog for services is so great that one-in-seven people waiting for a scan have been on the list for more than three months.
Cancer Research UK warns that the delays could mean more people presenting to medical services in a worse condition than they would have had they been allowed to seek treatment earlier. ....
