TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - East Texas pharmacies say theyâre taking a lot of calls about the COVID-19 vaccine, especially after the state said capable providers could begin vaccinating those over 65 and those with medical conditions.
And while providers are working to take care of those who are eligible and want the vaccine, they say supply is running low and they need your patience.
âWe were allotted 100 vaccines, and we gave those within the first two hours of receiving the vaccine,â said Shawn Sams of Louis Morgan Drug #4 in Longview. ....

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - More doses of Modernaâs COVID-19 vaccine arrived in East Texas on Monday. And just hours after being delivered to Brookshireâs and Super One Foods pharmacies, shots were already being given to those eligible.
âThe Moderna vaccine can be stored in a freezer for up to six months and in the refrigerator for up to 30 days, so itâs a lot easier for a retail pharmacy to handle,â said Charlotte Weller, Pharmacy Health Services Director for Brookshireâs Grocery Company. ....

University assembles vaccination task force

The university has assembled a COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution and Administration Task Force to develop a strategy for campus immunization, according to an email from Provost Noel Wilkin.
The task force will be chaired by Dr. David Allen, dean of the School of Pharmacy. Dr. Allen has been dean of the pharmacy school since 2012 and has authored 74 peer-reviewed articles and 44 professional publications. He is joined by 13 other members of the university community to complete the task force, including students, faculty, administrators and a staff physician.
“I’m deeply appreciative of their willingness to serve. We will keep the university community informed of the task force’s work as it moves forward,” Wilkin said in the statement. ....
