Trading cards have been around for decades. But now, the industry is undergoing a resale renaissance.
Across the board, sales for sports and gaming cards exploded in 2020. eBay sold more than 4 million more sports, non-sport trading cards, and collectible card games in 2020 than in 2019, resulting in a 142% surge in domestic sales in the category.
Sales were also up 4,000% in 2020 on StockX, a resale platform dedicated mainly to sneakers and streetwear. On Mercari, another e-commerce marketplace, trading cards saw a 405% year-over-year increase in orders placed in January 2021. ....

An Auckland villa bought last August has just been resold for a $755,000 resale jump - netting its owners more than $100,000 in capital gains per month.
The three-bedroom Grey Lynn home at 3 Schofield St sold at auction for $2.55 million on Wednesday as house prices continued to skyrocket.
The owners earlier paid $1.825m for the villa in August, with marketing photos from the time appearing to show little had been done to improve the property leading up to its incredible resale profit. ....

Insiders said Nike might ignore dubious behavior if it means a sneaker will do well at resale.
The sudden departure of one of Nike s senior executives is calling the company s connection to the resale world into question.
Nike s vice president and general manager for its North America division, Ann Hebert, resigned last week after a report highlighted her ties to her son s lucrative sneaker resale business.
