Simon Bridges criticised for linking festival deaths to drug-testing service

National MP Simon Bridges has been accused of disrespecting families of the dead after linking fatalities at festivals over summer with drug-testing services, despite none of the deaths being linked to drug use.
The Government last year temporarily legalised drug-testing services at music festivals, which had already been operating in a legal grey area for several years. That law is set to expire in December, but in April Health Minister Andrew Little said it would be made permanent. ....

Second person linked to Rhythm & Vines festival dies 'will be severely missed'

“Been a pretty tough event, to be honest,” Bell said.
Bell said his understanding was drugs were not involved in Wong’s death either.
He personally knew Peterson: “He was a nice guy.”

A statement from festival organisers expressed their condolences to Peterson s family.
“We are deeply saddened that David Peterson, a treasured member of the Wavefront Audio production team, passed away during the night while off duty on the night of December 30.
“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the crew member’s family, loved ones and colleagues at this time.”
Wavefront Audio manager Milo Kerrigan paid tribute to his colleague in a post on social media on New Year s Day, where he said the death was suspected to be heart failure. ....

The body of a teenager who was last seen alive at Rhythm and Vines has been found.
LandSAR volunteers located his body in the Ormond area of Gisborne.
He has been identified as 19-year-old Fletcher Wong, who was reported missing on Tuesday.
Wong, from Wellington, was last seen walking out of the admissions area of the Gisborne Rhythm and Vines festival site at 2am on Tuesday.

During the search efforts, Fire and Emergency New Zealand supplied a drone to help find the teenager. ....

The man who died at the Hidden Valley Festival was a member of the New Zealand Army who served New Zealand with pride .
He was Second Lieutenant Tuitu u Junior Vaiangina, 29.
Vaiangina joined the Army in 2015 and was most recently based at Linton Military Camp.
He served New Zealand with pride and will be sorely missed by his colleagues and all who knew him, Chief of Army Major General John Boswell said.
The army extended its sympathies to Vaiangina s family and friends, Boswell said. ....
