His successor Bishop Abel Apigo asked prayers for the prelate.
“Please pray for the repose of his soul,” CBCP News quoted Apigo.
A priest for 57 years, Bishop Alo entered the episcopacy when he was named Auxiliary Bishop of Davao in 1981.
In 1984, he was appointed the first bishop of the newly erected Mati diocese.
In the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, he served as chairman of the Commission on Health Care.
Bishop Alo resigned before he reached the church’s mandatory retirement age of 75 due to health reasons in 2014.
